Sailors Sea Shell Valentines

Framed shell compositions dating back to the 1850s used to be called Valentine. Sailors commissioned local artists in the Caribbean ports and took them home as a sentimental message of love for their sweethearts. Flower patterns, hearts and wind-roses were popular designs used in the compositions.

About Our Sailors Valentines

Our Sailors Valentines from Authentic Models have recreated the artistic production of the ancient shell frame art. Shells are collected by the youngsters of fishing villages in eastern Indonesia. The compositions are made by a group of women living in a small fishing village in Java. We are proud to present a small collection of decorative shell frames, in essence true reproductions, as well as original works of folk-art. Only non-endangered shells were used to decorate the frames. The frame is constructed of solid mahogany and is authentic in style and detail. It fits into any classic interior and makes a wonderful gift for your true love.
