Spider Conch Shells

Family: Strombidae. Characteristics: Although they may look a little different, Spider Conchs belong to the same family as the beautiful Pink Conch. Young Spider Conchs who have yet to develop their "fingers" look more like members of the cone family. Once they reach maturity, they develop their spider like "fingers" on the outer lip of the shell. Most live in shallow water, feeding on algae. Spider Conchs are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region of the world. Interesting Facts: Females have longer fingers than the males.
